Definition:
A collection of people experiencing a product of media. 

Media producers expect their audience to read their media in a certain way however everyone reads media in different ways depending on their subject positioning.

Audiences are then grouped together by gender, religion, class and other defining factors and used to make a target audience for media producers to help market their product. 

Demographic:
Media producers  get their target audiences depending on demographic profiles which are gender, age, income and more. Advertiser will match the demographic of where they are putting their advert using a press pack which will determine which demographic the media is consumed by the most.

Psychometrics:
This an audiences profile defined by how they think, consider values, attitudes and lifestyle.

Things to consider about audience:

Audience engagement describes how much an audience will interact with a certain media.
Audience Expectations which are advanced ideas an audience might have about the media text.
Audience Foreknowledge this is less vague than expectations as it's information the audience already knows before viewing the media product.
Audience Identification a way in which the audience feels a connections to their own life through the media.
Audience placement a range of strategies which media producers use to directly target a particular audience.
