Audience Definition: A collection of people experiencing a product of media.  Media producers expect their audience to read their media in a certain way however everyone reads media in different ways depending on their subject positioning. Audiences are then grouped together by gender, religion, class and other defining factors and used to make a target audience for media producers to help market their product.  Demographic: Media producers  get their target audiences depending on demographic profiles which are gender, age, income and more. Advertiser will match the demographic of where they are putting their advert using a press pack which will determine which demographic the media is consumed by the most. Semiotics Definition: This is the study of signs a sign is the smallest unit of meaning and is something that can give meaning or information. Signifier: This is the form in which the sign takes it can be a sound, printed words or an image. Signified: Whereas the signified is the concept it represents and changes from individuals. For example a can of Heinz Tomato soup is this images signifier. But for my individual signified response this picture of soup represents my childhood and reminds me of winter time. However for someone else it could the signified response for another person could be a famous food company. Key Editing Steps Organisation: First back up all the footage onto a separate device and place into folders labelled footage, audio, images, graphics, PP and scratch disk.  Creating a project: Firstly you will need to name the project making sure the name is specific enough that you will be able to know what the project is just by reading the name. Next you have to adjust the scratch disk so that the top four options are set to your project file and then your last option the automatic save is set to your PC. Overview of the Work space: Project: In this section you can import all your videos, sound and anything else you want to have in your edit also to help organise your work space you can move your items into Bins which act like files. Also from here you can add effects and adjustment layers. Editing: Definition: Selecting scenes to be shown and placing them together. The role: The editors job is to piece together the film shot by the director to make a story, they have the power to reject bad footage and include good footage. Also they have to organise shots and co-ordinate one shot from another making sure they keep the narrative moving and give a desired effect. Three elements of editing: Order of Shots: This element is very important the order of shots determine how the audience view the film it can completely change how a character or story line is perceived. By cutting the editor could be showing a connection or a juxtaposition. The Kuleshov Theory is a montage effect that suggests the audience makes conclusion on the order of shots presented to them. Media Representation: Representation in the media are ways in which the media shows different ages, genders, races, religion and disabilities. Media has the power to shape and adjust peoples understandings or beliefs about certain aspects of life meaning representation is very important to use in media. Important Terms Used in Representation: Stereotypes: This terms means a simplified representation of a certain grouping of people often these stereotypes are exaggerated and can occasionally be offensive. For example Lauren from the Catherine Tate show is a stereotype of teenage Essex girl.
